Hundreds of women from the eleven districts of the Teso sub-region on Friday thronged Soroti Sports Ground for the launch of the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) financing facility by Pride Bank Limited in partnership with the Government of Uganda.
The initiative is designed to empower women entrepreneurs through access to affordable financing, business support services and skills development to enable them expand their enterprises and improve household incomes.
Women leaders, business owners and representatives from different districts attended the colourful event, with many expressing optimism that the facility will address the long-standing challenge of limited access to capital among women-owned businesses.
The financing facility is expected to support women engaged in small and medium enterprises by providing accessible loans tailored to their business needs.
Beneficiaries noted that empowering women economically is key to fostering sustainable economic growth and reducing poverty levels across the region.
The GROW project, implemented in partnership with the Government of Uganda, is expected to benefit thousands of women entrepreneurs in sectors such as agriculture, trade, tailoring, catering and other income-generating activities.
Several women who attended the launch welcomed the initiative, saying it will help them boost their businesses, create jobs and improve livelihoods in their communities.
Leaders in Teso also applauded the programme, describing it as a timely intervention that will strengthen women’s participation in economic development and promote financial inclusion in the sub-region.
The launch in Soroti marks another step in government efforts to support women-led enterprises and accelerate inclusive economic transformation across Uganda.
